Is a white, running, run-of-the-mill, automatic, and somewhat clean ‘71-73 Mustang Sportroof/Fastback. FACT.

You wouldn’t want one with 4-on-the-floor?

I wouldn’t say no to either, honestly. But as big of a car the ‘71-73s are, I’d rather just cruise.

How about a 69-73 Torino/Gran Torino Sportsroof and Fastback?

not-so-funny story. about 15 years ago when they were rebuilding Jefferson Ave. in St. Clair Shores, they kept traffic moving by doing half of it at a time. They had the two southbound lanes torn up, so northbound was divided into one lane each direction. I was driving behind a white ‘71-’73 Mustang (can’t remember which level) which looked to be in perfect condition. Until some guy in a beater turning left from a side street jumped out blindly and took out the Mustang’s left side.

just hope it never needs trans work. The FMX is an old ( old ) design and I don’t know how many people are left who know how to work on it. they didn’t have integrated valve bodies like the later C4/C6, so there’s a head-scratching amount of stuff in there when you drop the pan.
(I’m assuming it has an FMX, the ‘71-73 Cougars all had that behind the 351s.)

They have grown on me. For years, I really didn’t care for the 71-73. I was always a 69-70 fan, and always a fastback over coupe fan. Now, I’d take a 71-73 for the right price.

I hope the guy got out, and beat the driver of the beaters ass. I think it should be required by law.

Can’t you just put a C4 or C3 in it?

My dad had a 73 Mach 1. He sold it years before I was born but I really wish he had kept it. The few pictures he has of it looked like it was in amazing shape

yes, with some associated parts changes:
http://www.fordmuscleforums.com/c4-transmissions/431495-what-parts-do-i-need-fmx-c4-swap.html
I did this exact conversion recently and you’ll need a 157 tooth bellhousing , a 28oz 157 tooth flexplate , a torque converter for c4, a starter from a 1990 mustang, the yoke on the transmission side, the crossmember is the same- so is the driveshaft length, you might need a new dipstick - I got one from lokar with flexible mesh just to be safe. Just move the crossmember back, the block plate will work if you want to fudge it a bit and modify it so the starter fits. I changed the shifter to a B&M pro ratchet, so i don’t know if a stock shifter brings more complication. Great mod, i hated the FMX.
nobody likes the FMX.

Hopefully so was a fist, but the police didn’t see that. The beater driver slipped and fell.
